With the Super Bowl coming to town, local Transport Workers Union members have planned several informational demonstrations at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport for this weekend, to tell passengers about the union's stalled contract talks with American Airlines.
And now, the NFL Players Association, which is also in contentious talks with its league owners, has come out in support of the TWU demonstrations.
The TWU has planned to distribute flyers at Terminals A, C, and D on Friday and Saturday, according to a letter posted on TWU Local 513's website. And then on Monday, when many Super Bowl fans are leaving North Texas, a demonstration is scheduled at those same terminals from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The union said that the NFLPA will have some retired football players out at the demonstrations, walking side-by-side with the American workers and the theme of the protest will be "Not everything is Super at American."
“American’s management talks a good game,” said Darrin Pierce President of TWU Local 513, which represents baggage handlers and other ground workers at DFW. “However their record shows that they don’t play fairly and they have hurt the combined team effort by lining their own pockets while starving ground workers and other frontline employees.” This article was written by Andrea Ahles and appeared in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
